This year’s reception was held March 26 and featured the theme, “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment.”

Chancellor Charles R. Bantz opened the event with reflections on some of the “founding mothers” of IUPUI, who laid the groundwork in schools that eventually became a part of the joint campus.

Janice Bankert-Countryman, instructor of the course Introduction to Women's Studies, gave the keynote address sharing the class's plans for an exhibit called “Continuing the Party." The exhibit, which in May will be housed in the Cultural Arts Gallery, builds upon the Judy Chicago exhibit “The Dinner Party” by honoring women who have made an impact in their lives.

Professor EJ Choe, director of the IUPUI Music Academy and Sara Hook, a professor in the IU School of Informatics and Computing, provided musical entertainment playing the "Sonata No. 4 in D Major for Harpsichord and Flute" by Anna Bon.

Faculty awards were presented by the Office for Women to:

Newcomer faculty winner: Pratibha Varma-Nelson, executive director, IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning; professor of chemistry, School of Science at IUPUI.

Veteran faculty winner: Mary Dankoski, associate dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, IU School of Medicine; vice chair for Faculty and Academic Affairs, Department of Family Medicine; Lester D. Bibler Scholar and associate professor of Family Medicine.
