Topics in psychology and interdisciplinary applications. May be repeated, provided different topics are studied, for a maximum of 6 credit hours.

Psychology of Mental Health and Recovery

Staying healthy, and recovering one’s mental health (e.g., after illness, substance abuse, life stressors), require specific knowledge, skills, and supports.  Effectivestrategies to manage mental health will be taught through a combination of didactic material and experiential exercises based on research findings.   Topics include: setting meaningful life goals, understanding the relationship between stress and health, identifying problematic symptoms, using medications, social support, and coping strategies effectively, managing substance abuse, preventing relapses, and getting needs met through the mental health system.
